Endangered Species

It is estimated that 200 species are disappearing from the earth every year. This reduces the biodiversity, the fragile web that connects plants, insects, birds and animals and enables our food crops and medicinal plants to grow and multiply.

For this task you will select an endangered species from somewhere in the world and create a web page with information about the species.

1. Select a species from one of these websites:
Endangered Species List
World Wildlife Fund
•The Red Book List .
For the Red List type in a general category keyword such as plants, birds or animals OR a specific animal that you may know. The Red list will tell you whether or how endangered they are.

2. Create a new page for your species by going back to the home page and selecting New Page from the menu on the top left hand side.

3. Write the name of the species as the name of the page.

4. Type the name of the species at the top of the page when it opens.

5.Select save at the top right hand side of the toolbar.

6. Go back to the Home page.

7. Select the Red Book List and type in the name of your species in the search box.

8. When the species page appears double click on the name to open the fact sheet with information.

9. Take notes about the information you need or copy and paste it into a Word document to retrieve it later.

10. On your wiki page include:

• A title with the name of your species.

• A written description of the species.

• A picture of the species.

• Information about where the species is found or located. This should include both the country or countries and the specific habitat.

• Information about why the species is endangered. List the causes. Also give information about possible numbers remaining in the wild or in (captive) breeding programs.

• Explain what people can do to help preserve the species.

11. If you need more information or an image type your species' name as a keyword into a search engine.
